Principal Consultant* - Business Analyst / Project Manager Payments

Lead comprehensive transformation programmes in payments - from strategy through analysis to successful implementation.

Your role

As Principal Consultant* in Payments, you take on a hybrid role combining business analysis and project management in complex transformation programmes for leading financial institutions. You shape solution approaches, lead workstreams or programmes, and drive implementation across business, operations and technology teams. This role is aimed at experienced payments specialists who work flexibly between strategic analysis and operational delivery.

Your responsibilities

• Leading or steering transformation initiatives in core payments areas such as cards, account-to-account payments, pricing & billing, customer service and operational modernisation
• Defining target processes, requirements approaches and implementation roadmaps while ensuring governance and stakeholder alignment
• Setting up and managing programme structures, delivery plans, dependencies, RAID processes and reporting at management level
• Moderating decision-making processes between product, operations, technology, risk and finance stakeholders to resolve complex issues
• Contributing to the growth of consulting projects through solution development, relationship building with clients and subject-matter input in payments transformation

Your profile

• Many years of experience in payments transformation in a consulting or financial services environment (business analysis, delivery leadership or programme management)
• Experience working with international and cross-functional teams in a global environment
• Experience dealing with senior stakeholders up to C-level or Managing Director level
• Experience in management consulting, consulting or business development
• Solid knowledge of payment products and processes (e.g. cards, transaction banking, billing, clearing, settlement or scheme-driven change)
• Proven ability to lead large and complex initiatives, manage senior stakeholders and deliver results in regulated, dynamic environments
• Ability to switch between strategic analysis and operational programme management depending on client requirements
• Strong communication, leadership and problem-solving skills with a strong presence in client-facing environments
• Fluent German and English, and willingness to travel

Nice to have

• Experience with key payments modernisation topics such as ISO 20022, platform renewal, redesign of commercial offerings or operating model transformation
• Experience in international payments environments, multi-market rollouts or regulatory transformation initiatives
• Proven experience in building teams, coaching consultants and contributing to business development
• Relevant delivery certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, Scrum or SAFe
