WSP Denmark
Required skills
About the role
Translated into English from Danish by Korum. The employer's original wording is on their site.
What if you could work alongside some of the industry's most skilled experts?
We are looking for someone who is passionate about nature - both on land and at sea, above and below water, and even in the air. Someone who, with presence, empathy and enthusiasm, can lead and motivate their employees.
With us you become part of a department characterised by high professional standards and very skilled, independent colleagues. Together we make up what we believe is one of Denmark's strongest and best teams in the nature field. WSP Denmark employs approx. 600 employees and is part of a professionally strong Central European unit, where collaboration takes place across Europe and the Nordics - and with the rest of the global WSP organisation. As Head of Department you report to the Division Director and sit on the division's management group, consisting of environmental directors and 8 department heads.
Your department
The Nature & Environment East department consists of approx. 35 employees - biologists, geographers, geologists etc. The department is part of the Earth & Environment division, where 285 skilled colleagues work. Together we ensure an optimal project solution through efficient project management within our framework for quality, time and economy. The tone is informal, cheerful and attentive, and the structure is flat. The department's employees are concentrated at our office in Høje Taastrup, but we cooperate closely with our sister department at the offices in Aarhus and Aalborg. In Høje Taastrup you will have close collaboration and a super collegial community with the other environment managers.

At WSP you become part of one of the world's leading consultancies - a place where we work to future-proof our cities, nature and environment. You also become part of our innovation programme "Future Ready", which helps us design for the future and integrate trends within climate, society, technology and resources into our projects.
Here you gain access to international expert communities and strong professional networks - and you will experience collaboration across both competencies and geographies, because we know we get furthest together.
Your tasks
Attentive leadership, where you take good care of our Nature & Environment East department and lead the way to ensure that together you meet the department's budget and growth targets, while maintaining and ideally increasing employee wellbeing, through a curious and innovative approach.
Specific tasks:
Finance and people management
Responsibility for recruitment to the department
Strategy and objectives for the department
Participation in and sparring on larger bids
Overall responsibility for project portfolio and sales
Your skills and competencies
You are a visible, attentive and trustworthy leader with strong collaborative skills and a natural focus on people. You create direction, prioritise confidently and maintain an overview, also when tasks are complex or under pressure. You have leadership experience and can bring people together across disciplines and interests. At the same time you have experience with financial responsibility and preferably leadership from the consultancy sector.
We are looking for a Head of Department who can further develop a strong department characterised by high professional standards, community and an informal culture. We place particular emphasis on whether you:
Strengthen the community and maintain the informal and trusting culture
Are a visible leader who is close to employees and engaged in day-to-day work
Create direction, make prioritisations and support employees when tasks and projects become complex
Value interdisciplinary collaboration and understand the interplay between clients, authorities and other stakeholders
Have market knowledge and an interest in nature restoration, aquatic environment, biodiversity and the green transition, including the implementation of the projects in Grøn Trepart
Have a strong commercial understanding and experience with sales, market and business development
Can set strategic direction for the department and turn ambitions and market opportunities into concrete goals and initiatives
Have experience with P&L responsibility and financial management and can ensure a healthy balance between growth, earnings and long-term development
As a leader you believe in freedom under responsibility. You give room for independence and decisiveness, while being an accessible sparring partner when needed. You create an environment characterised by open dialogue, involvement and psychological safety, because you know the best solutions are created together.
Room for both ambitions and people
At WSP you get a workplace where you can be yourself - and grow both professionally and personally. You get access to our global learning platforms WSP Learns and WSP Cornerstone, where thousands of courses and learning programmes give you the opportunity to continuously strengthen both your professional and personal competencies. We know that work isn't everything, and therefore our culture encourages flexibility so you can navigate both your working and private life.
We cherish a good working environment and a strong social culture. Our staff associations arrange everything from summer parties to cosy everyday activities, and we have a lovely canteen with to-go evening meals and a massage scheme. In addition you get attractive employee benefits such as a pension scheme, health insurance, a share purchase programme and free parking.
For us it is important to be a workplace where you feel welcome, valued and included.
