About the role
SOVRA is looking for a senior financial analyst to join its financial planning and analysis team in the Montréal region, Québec. The successful candidate will contribute to the monthly reports prepared for the executive team and the board of directors, as well as to the forecasts and budgets that guide the company. This is a replacement position.
The person will prepare a variety of recurring and ad hoc analyses, including budget variance analyses, project tracking, and performance and profitability analyses. They will also produce the reports and dashboards, including several key SaaS metrics, required for month-end close, and will contribute to improving processes related to SOVRA's financial systems.
Executives, the board of directors and managers rely on this work to make decisions; the person in this role must therefore ensure the integrity of every deliverable and meet established deadlines. By working directly with the company's stakeholders, they will turn numbers into clear and useful explanations for senior audiences. The role is remote from the Montréal region, with on-site presence for monthly and quarterly closings.
What will your main responsibilities be?
Forecasting, modelling and budgeting
You will take ownership of specific components of the monthly financial reporting, annual budget and forecasting processes, covering the income statement and cash flows, while supporting your colleagues as needed.
You will contribute to the monthly reports prepared for the executive team and the board of directors, and ensure the integrity of every deliverable within established deadlines.
Variance and performance analysis
You will analyse variances between budget and forecast, working directly with company stakeholders to gather the explanations and context behind the results.
You will prepare analytical and management reports, including reports on sales and customer revenue, as well as performance, profitability and project tracking analyses.
SaaS metrics and dashboards
You will prepare the reports and dashboards, including several key SaaS metrics, required for the month-end process.
You will monitor dashboards and operational-level performance indicators.
Stakeholder collaboration and process improvement
You will respond to ad hoc requests from managers and work directly with business teams on certain projects.
You will present your findings to stakeholders and influence decisions through clear, well-supported analyses, without relying on formal authority.
You will contribute to optimising processes related to SOVRA's financial systems.
What you will bring to this role
FP&A experience - you have 5 or more years of experience in FP&A or in a comparable financial function as a financial analyst, or in financial consulting, for example within a large firm, with achievements in modelling and analysis.
Forecasting and variance analysis - you build forward-looking models for the income statement, cash flows or SaaS metrics such as ARR, MRR, churn rate, CAC and LTV, including rolling forecasts, and you carry out variance analyses and post-mortem reviews.
Advanced Excel and Office skills - you work at an advanced level in Excel, beyond pivot tables and VLOOKUP; you are able to use functions such as INDEX-MATCH, integrate multiple data sources and build advanced analytical formulas. You are also proficient in Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Stakeholder influence - you present reports to senior stakeholders, explain your findings clearly and influence decisions without formal authority.
Bilingual communication - you are comfortable working in French and English.
Academic background - you hold a university degree in accounting, finance or a related field.
Presence in the Montréal region - you live in the Montréal region, Québec, and are available to attend on site for monthly and quarterly closings.
Right to work in Canada - we are not able to sponsor work visas or transfers at this time.
Assets that would help you stand out
SaaS experience - you have worked in a SaaS company and understand how its financial metrics relate to one another. Applications from other sectors are equally encouraged.
Applied AI in FP&A - you have hands-on experience using AI tools to improve efficiency and generate insights in FP&A work.
Professional designation - you hold a CPA designation or an equivalent designation. Those who are in the process of obtaining a designation, or who have equivalent progressive FP&A experience, are equally encouraged to apply.
You should apply if
You want your analyses to inform the decisions of SOVRA's executive team and board of directors.
You enjoy the steady rhythm of monthly and quarterly cycles, where rigour and consistency build confidence in the numbers.
You want your finance work to support a company whose technology helps public bodies get the most from public funds.
What we look for in applications
We review each application individually and assess it on its own merits, rather than through keyword searching. The most compelling applications:
Describe the models, forecasts and reports you built or took over, who used them and what results they produced, with figures where you have them.
When you name a tool, such as Excel or an AI tool, add a brief note on how you used it. We want to see more than a simple list of systems and tools.
Provide precise details of your own work, which tells us far more than a general summary of your responsibilities.
Our interview process
Our process is designed to be rigorous while respecting your time. Three conversations will cover the content of the role and how you would work with the team.
Conversation with a member of the Talent Acquisition team

Conversation with the Chief Financial Officer
