We are looking for a Senior Occupational Health and Safety Advisor who wants to put their expertise at the service of major infrastructure projects and play an influential role with project teams, contractors and clients.

Your role

As a Senior OHS Advisor, you will be a key person in prevention and risk management on our large-scale projects. You will act as expert, advisor and strategic partner, supporting teams in identifying risks, implementing preventive measures and continuously improving OHS performance.

Your role will notably involve:

Being present on site

• Carrying out OHS supervision of worksites and ensuring a proactive presence with contractors, workers and other stakeholders.

• Taking part in supervision of works to validate their compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

• Carrying out inspections, audits and compliance assessments.

• Following up on non-conformities, recommending corrective measures and supporting teams in their implementation.

• Working in high-risk environments with complex challenges.

Advising and influencing

• Acting as consulting expert to project teams, managers, clients and contractors.

• Taking part in the safe planning of works and integrating OHS requirements from the design and execution phases.

• Carrying out complex risk analyses and recommending suitable mitigation measures.

• Developing, revising and implementing OHS programmes, plans, procedures and tools.

• Advising managers and clients on regulatory obligations and industry best practices.

• Coordinating prevention activities between the various stakeholders.

Managing critical situations and promoting continuous improvement

• Taking part in incident investigations, root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective measures.

• Contributing to the preparation and management of emergency, crisis and business continuity situations when required.

• Producing OHS performance reports and identifying opportunities for improvement.

• Contributing to the development and maintenance of a strong and lasting prevention culture.

Contributing to business development

In this senior role, your expertise will also contribute to the development of our practice:

• Identifying mandate opportunities with existing and potential clients.

• Taking part in preparing service offers, technical proposals and client presentations.

• Developing and maintaining a professional network in the infrastructure, transport, rail and major civil works sectors.

• Acting as an ambassador for Norda Stelo with clients, partners and market players.

• Contributing to the positioning and development of our OHS expertise.

The profile we are looking for

We are looking for an experienced person, credible in the field and able to step back to address strategic issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline: occupational health and safety, industrial relations, engineering, ergonomics or a related field.

• 15 years or more of relevant experience in occupational health and safety.

• Significant experience in site supervision on major construction or infrastructure projects.

• Experience on construction, infrastructure, transport, industrial or engineering structure projects.

• Excellent knowledge of the Quebec and Canadian OHS regulatory framework.

• Experience in consulting, risk management and prevention.

• Experience or strong interest in business development and client relations.

• Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills.

• Ability to work in multidisciplinary, complex and constantly evolving environments.

• Recognised leadership and ability to mobilise teams around common objectives.

• Entrepreneurial spirit, autonomy and results orientation.

Assets

• Experience on major public transit or rail projects.

• Experience with major public project owners.

• CRSP, CSP, ISO 45001 certification, OHS audit or equivalent.

• Experience in crisis management and emergency measures.

• Experience in high-risk environments: work at height, confined spaces, lockout, rail safety, electrical safety, etc.

• Experience on large-scale projects such as motorways, bridges, transport infrastructure, energy or major civil works.

You are someone with strong field credibility who also knows how to take a higher-level view, advise decision-makers and influence the various stakeholders.

You enjoy complex environments, challenges that call for judgement and roles where your expertise can genuinely move things forward.
