Java Technical Lead + AI (Hybrid Madrid)

At knowmad mood we continue driving high-impact technology projects and are looking to bring on a Java Technical Lead (with experience working with SDD and with Claude) to take part as technical lead on an Artificial Intelligence project for a major banking institution, supported by multidisciplinary profiles (architects, developers...) and with direct interaction with the client.

We are looking for a senior profile, with a solid technical foundation in software development and real experience making architectural design decisions, having defined projects end to end, able to lead teams and evolve complex technical solutions.

This is a hybrid position (1 or 2 days of on-site presence in the office), Barrio de Salamanca area, Madrid.

What will you be doing?

• Design and deliver end-to-end fraud prevention capabilities, actively taking part in the code, testing and production deployment.

• Take the lead in the technical direction and architectural decisions of the squad, translating business needs and fraud operations into maintainable and scalable solutions.

• Evolve the rules and decision engine based on Drools and its integrations with front-end applications, internal systems, core banking and external providers.

• Design microservices, APIs and event-based flows applying Java, Spring Boot, hexagonal architecture, modularity, resilience, idempotency and traceability.

• Balance new functionality, scalability and delivery speed with refactoring, reduction of technical debt and progressive re-architecture.

• Raise engineering standards in testing, security, observability, performance, code review and maintainability.

• Work through Spec-Driven Development and use Claude Code or equivalent tools with judgement, critical review and responsibility for the outcome.

• Unblock the team, coordinate dependencies and collaborate with the areas involved. When a blocker cannot be resolved within your scope, you must escalate it early to the appropriate people or areas and follow up as necessary until it is resolved.

What are we looking for in you?

• Proven experience as a senior software engineer, with a solid backend foundation and agile software delivery in production.

• Experience exercising technical leadership as Tech Lead, Lead Developer, Senior Software Engineer or an equivalent position.

• Advanced knowledge of Java and Spring/Spring Boot, microservices and hexagonal architecture.

• Solid experience defining and consuming APIs, events and integrations with internal and third-party services.

• Demonstrable experience with Spec-Driven Development (SDD) or equivalent practices based on clear specifications, verifiable criteria and traceability between requirements, code and tests.

• Regular use of Claude Code or equivalent tools as part of the engineering cycle, maintaining critical review and responsibility for the quality, security and correctness of the outcome.

• Ability to understand end-to-end solutions, from the backend to front-end applications and other consumers.

• Judgement on code quality, security, observability, performance, scalability and technical debt.
