About the role

Translated into English from French by Korum. The employer's original wording is on their site.

Putting digital technology at the service of major societal and environmental challenges: this is the ambition ESIEA has pursued since 1958. An associative and independent engineering school, administered by its alumni since 1975 and awarded the EESPIG label, it trains engineers and experts in computing ready to meet the technological challenges of tomorrow.

Its hallmark: a teaching approach based on project-based learning, cutting-edge applied research and strong immersion in industry. Training, research and innovation advance hand in hand there, close to the transformations of the digital world.

By joining our laboratory, you will become part of a dynamic team of researchers who regularly publish in leading scientific conferences and journals and who develop research projects with a strong societal impact.

During the recruitment process, you will have the opportunity to visit the laboratories and exchange with members of the team in order to discover concretely your future working environment, the ongoing projects and the research themes developed within the esieaLab.

Your research mission:

You will join the Learning, Data & Robotics (LDR) team with the ambition of developing and structuring a scientific dynamic at the interface between artificial intelligence, intelligent systems and environmental challenges.

We are looking for an experienced teacher-researcher, holding a PhD in computer science or a related discipline, with recognised scientific activity in one or more of the following areas:

  • Artificial intelligence;

  • Data science;

  • Robotics;

  • Cyber-physical systems;

  • Internet of Things (IoT);

  • Embedded systems;

  • Automatic control;

  • Modelling;

  • Optimisation.

A strategic theme: the intelligent environment

Particular attention will be given to work dedicated to smart agriculture and controlled environments.

The research developed may notably concern:

  • the acquisition, fusion and analysis of data from heterogeneous sensors;

  • predictive modelling of crops and their environment;

  • early detection of anomalies, stress or diseases;

  • optimisation of irrigation, energy, nutrients and resources;

  • adaptive control of greenhouses, aquaponic systems or agricultural equipment;

  • robotics and computer vision applied to observation or intervention;

  • the design of digital twins for the modelling, simulation and control of agricultural or environmental systems;

  • the development of decision-support systems for the supervision and optimisation of these systems;

  • embedded artificial intelligence and local data processing close to sensors and equipment;

  • the design of explainable, frugal, robust intelligent systems adapted to real constraints of use and deployment.

A unique experimental platform

The intelligent greenhouse and associated equipment on the new Ivry-sur-Seine campus will be a privileged support for the development, instrumentation and validation of research work.

The work must nevertheless go beyond this experimental framework and aim to produce methods, models and systems transferable to other agricultural, urban or environmental contexts.

A driving role in the scientific strategy

You will be expected to:

  • Define and lead an ambitious scientific programme;

  • Bring together complementary skills within the team;

  • Develop partnerships with academic laboratories, agricultural players, technology companies and local authorities.

  • Lead and contribute to the preparation of national or European projects;

  • Supervise PhD students;

  • Ensure the scientific and technological valorisation of research work;

  • Prepare and lead national and European research projects.

You may also collaborate with the other teams of the esieaLab, in particular with the Immersion and Interaction team on issues related to visualisation, immersive environments and digital twins, as well as with the Digital Trust and Security team on security, trust, data protection and the resilience of intelligent systems.

Sustained scientific output and national or international visibility are expected. A Habilitation to Supervise Research (HDR), or equivalent experience in scientific leadership, will be a major asset.

Your teaching mission:

You will teach students and apprentices, in French and occasionally in English.

General computing courses

• Algorithms;

• Programming (Python, Java...);

• Databases.

Specialist courses in artificial intelligence

• Big Data;

• Machine Learning;

• Deep Learning;

• NLP / NLU;

• Computer Vision.

The school being renowned for its project-based teaching, you will be keen to propose and supervise innovative project topics for students, as part of your research activities or in connection with the school's partner companies.

Why join us?

• A school recognised among the leading references in digital technology and computing

• A developing research laboratory with promising themes

• An involved and collaborative team of teacher-researchers

• Great freedom in developing your scientific projects

• Motivated students and a renowned project-based teaching approach

• A stimulating working environment on the doorstep of Paris
