Automation Architect - Permanent Contract
I-TRACING
Required skills
About the role
Translated into English from French by Korum. The employer's original wording is on their site.
The Cloud Automation & Security (CAS) unit of I-TRACING works between Courbevoie, Annecy and Geneva across the entire project lifecycle, through three service pillars (scoping missions, build missions and run/production missions), set up on three areas of expertise (cloud in the sense of infrastructure/containerisation/orchestration, automation and security).
To support the growth of this business unit, we are currently recruiting an Automation Architect who shares our values and wishes to progress with I-TRACING in a relationship of mutual sharing.
Reporting to the technical manager of the CAS unit, and working directly at our major corporate clients, you will be responsible for designing and running enterprise automation architectures, from needs definition through to industrialisation and the upskilling of teams.
To do this, your main responsibilities will be:
Scoping and design
• Gather and formalise user needs (infrastructure, network, security and application teams) and translate them into architecture requirements
• Lead the study and selection of an enterprise orchestration tool to drive the functional flows of an infrastructure (criteria, comparison e.g. Apache Airflow, proof of concept, recommendation)
• Design the mechanisms that trigger automations by event (event buses, webhooks, API calls) and their integration into the existing IS
• Define identity management end to end across the automation chain: Machine-to-Machine authentication, delegation and token exchange (On-Behalf-Of / Token Exchange), secrets management, least privilege principle and traceability
Build and industrialisation
• Organise the execution platforms (AWX / Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, GitLab CI/CD) responsible for executing the tasks requested by functional workflows: breakdown, governance, multi-tenancy, high availability
• Define automation development standards (Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, code reviews, testing, versioning) and the associated security best practices
• Implement and ensure the consistency of the target architecture over time
Knowledge transfer and support
• Train client teams on the tools (Ansible, Terraform, Git, Python) and automation practices.
• Produce architecture deliverables (architecture documents, comparative studies, roadmaps, best practice guides)
• Contribute to improving and creating the CAS unit's offerings, and support the sales team in pre-sales (scoping, costing, presentations)
• Maintain active technology watch and share your experience within the CAS community
Fluent English reading, writing and speaking is essential.
How do you know if you can join us?
• You hold a higher engineering diploma or a university master's degree in computer science
• You have significant experience (around 7 years) in infrastructure automation, including part of it on architecture topics in major corporate environments. Essential fundamentals
POSITION SKILLS
Essential fundamentals
• In-depth command of Ansible: roles, collections, inventories, variable management, idempotence • Git and CI/CD: branches, merge requests, code reviews, GitLab CI pipelines
• Python and REST APIs: structured scripts, calling and exposing APIs (authentication, return codes, JSON)
• Infrastructure foundations: Linux, network (DNS, flows, firewalls, load balancers), virtualisation and cloud
• Architecture thinking: ability to break a need down into building blocks (orchestration, execution, triggering), to handle errors and recovery and to ensure traceability
• Identity and security applied to automation: OAuth2 / OIDC, service accounts, secrets management (such as HashiCorp Vault), least privilege principle
Desirable skills
• Terraform and an Infrastructure as Code approach beyond Ansible
• AWX / Ansible Automation Platform: administration, multi-team organisation, CI/CD integration
• Apache Airflow (DAGs, operators, scheduling, monitoring) or an equivalent workflow orchestrator
• Event-driven architectures: message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ), webhooks
• Token exchange (On-Behalf-Of, Token Exchange) and advanced Machine-to-Machine authentication
• Cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP) and containerisation (Kubernetes / OpenShift)

Essential soft skills
• Needs gathering: ability to question, rephrase and challenge a request before choosing a tool
• Teaching: enjoy passing on knowledge and explaining to teams with varied profiles
• Writing quality: architecture documents, comparative studies, roadmaps

• A true team player, comfortable with many stakeholders (client teams, operational staff of the CAS unit and other units, business engineers, partners …)
Fluent English reading, writing and speaking is essential.
