About the role

Translated into English from Dutch by Korum. The employer's original wording is on their site.

At OPENRED you will build the financial and operational heart of a scale-up that wants to make housebuilding in the Netherlands faster at decision-making. You own the numbers and the rhythm of the company, with a seat at the leadership table and the founder right beside you.

About OPENRED: making an impact on the housing of the future

The Netherlands faces one of the largest housing shortages in its history, and yet construction is stalling. Not for lack of plans or capital, but because of slow, fragmented decision-making: every developer, municipality and investor decides on their own island, with outdated information. Every misallocation costs millions in written-off land and stranded projects and, above all, homes that will not be built. OPENRED exists to break that.

We are building the decision infrastructure for housebuilding: the place where the people who allocate scarce resources (developers, municipal planning economists, fund managers) decide which projects go ahead first, and meet each other directly around an OPENRED-assessed project. The workflow layer of Bloomberg, the normative layer of Moody’s for Dutch housebuilding. That is no modest ambition, and the foundation is already in place: around 150 customers, €2.1M ARR and a team of ±25 people who know this market by name.

The route forward is a double leap: to 285 customers and to 2× the value per customer, together reaching €12M ARR (2028). H2 2026 is the foundation under that leap: repricing proves itself at renewals, multi-year contracts replace single years, and the core product moves from demo to launched. That exact phase calls for what we have deliberately kept small until now: a professional financial and operational heart. That is why we are looking for a Head of Finance & Operations, the first owner of our numbers and of our operating rhythm, and a member of the leadership team.

Your Role

This role has two mandates that form one whole: you build the financial heartbeat of OPENRED and you are the owner of the operating cadence, the rhythm through which plans are translated into quarterly goals, progress and completed results. You work directly with the founder and are part of the management team (MT).

Mandate 1 Financial heartbeat

  • Set up and run the full control cycle: month-end close, management reporting to the board and shareholders, rolling forecast and cash/runway management.

  • Bring the finance function in-house: today we rely on an external accountant and interim support. You build the house and direct external parties.

  • Working capital and cost discipline: debtor management, contract discipline, budget monitoring, and identifying and resolving deviations.

  • Lead the annual (bottom-up) budget cycle and build the bridge to KPIs and leading indicators per department.

  • Business support for sales: pricing, repricing at renewals, multi-year contracts and subsidy opportunities (including WBSO).

Mandate 2 Operating cadence

  • Design and safeguard the operating rhythm: quarterly goals, weekly and monthly rhythm in the MT, a decision log and follow-up until matters are closed.

  • Structure the translation of strategy into executable plans together with the CEO, who carries the vision and direction.

  • Help prioritise initiatives: start fewer at the same time, finish more.

  • Set up reporting lines to the board and shareholders, with a fixed, predictable calendar.

AI-native way of working

  • OPENRED is an AI-native organisation; we expect finance to reach the same speed and automation.

  • Deploy AI agents and tooling for reporting, forecasting, reconciliation and analysis: a small, smart finance function instead of a large department.

Who are you?
  • A business economics or accountancy background (RA/RC or comparable level of thinking), with 7-12 years of experience.

  • You have previously built or matured a finance function in a scale-up (20-100 FTE), preferably B2B SaaS. You know ARR, NRR, deferred revenue and cash runway from the inside.

  • Senior business controller expertise as the backbone: you can run the cycle yourself, not just have it run.

  • Proven rhythm owner: where you have worked, the reports were there every month, without prompting.

  • Structured and a finisher: you enjoy the process itself, not just the result.

  • Robust and stress-resilient: you stay calm and push back with a smile in an MT of articulate, critical thinkers.

  • Hands-on with modern tooling (accounting software, BI/dashboards) and an affinity for AI-driven work.

You do not need to be perfect at everything yet. We are looking for someone who learns quickly, takes responsibility and enjoys building.

Work for clients as...
What we offer
  • €6,500-€8,500 gross per month, depending on experience.

  • A leadership position with a dual mandate that truly matters at this stage: numbers and rhythm.

  • Direct collaboration with the founder, the MT and the shareholders.

  • Hybrid working from Rotterdam; annual team trip.

  • The space to build the finance and operations function from the foundation up, to your own design.

  • A pension scheme, so you can still enjoy yourself later.

  • A mobility solution that suits you.

Why this role is unique
  • You work on something that matters: infrastructure with which the Netherlands builds homes faster and smarter. Every improvement in decision-making that this platform enables is visible in the real world.

  • A proven product, a vertical market we know by name, and an organisation with pioneering energy in abundance. The missing discipline is exactly your craft, and everyone knows it.

  • You are not a staff function but a co-director of the double leap to €12M ARR: around 2× customers and around 2× value per customer. The repricing and contract discipline that carries half of that is yours.

  • No legacy, but a mandate: you decide how finance and the operating rhythm are set up, with the founder and shareholders right beside you.

  • Deliberately no CFO title: there is headroom to grow with the organisation.
