About the role
Translated into English from Korean by Korum. The employer's original wording is on their site.
Video accounts for 90% of the world's data, yet most of it still remains in a domain that machines cannot understand.
TwelveLabs builds AI infrastructure that enables machines to understand video, in order to solve this problem. Through AI models that understand video more precisely and deeply than people do, we comprehensively analyse the visual and auditory information within videos and apply it to workflows across media and entertainment, sports, security and the public sector.
We have raised more than 300 billion KRW in cumulative investment from global investors including NEA, Radical Ventures, Amazon, NVIDIA, Snowflake, Databricks, Index Ventures, Naver Ventures, Korea Investment Partners, Quadrille Capital and Red Bull Ventures. In addition, world-leading AI figures such as Fei-Fei Li, Silvio Savarese and Alexandr Wang serve as advisers alongside us.
TwelveLabs is a global company operating from four offices: San Francisco, Seoul, New York and London. Core research and development takes place in Seoul, and members of our offices around the world are applying video understanding technology across a range of industries and markets on this foundation. Because we build technology that understands the complexity of the world, we believe better products can be built when people with different backgrounds and perspectives come together.
We are looking for people who want to define answers that do not yet exist, and who want to create change with their own hands. Build technology that understands the world together with us at TwelveLabs.
We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to build and run the systems that support TwelveLabs' AI platform. We especially expect someone with strong views and experience in Platform and SRE.
This position requires a very high level of hands-on engineering. You will cover infrastructure, backend systems and reliability engineering overall, and will hold substantial ownership of production systems.
You must be able to solve problems even where the boundaries between different engineering areas are unclear. When a production incident occurs, you do not simply pass the problem on to the 'responsible team'; you investigate it directly, verify existing assumptions, trace the whole system to find the root cause, and drive the problem to resolution until the fix is live in production.
You will also design and build infrastructure and internal platforms so that engineers can develop and deploy quickly, while continuously improving the reliability, observability, performance and operational maturity of production systems.
You will be a good fit if you enjoy digging deeply into technical problems, solving them by moving freely across the layers of a system, and prefer owning the problem itself over managing one particular infrastructure area.
In this role, you willDesign, build and operate scalable infrastructure and internal platforms that support TwelveLabs' AI products
Take ownership of the reliability and operational health of production systems, from incident response through root cause analysis to long-term improvement
Build CI/CD for fast and safe deployment, and improve observability systems for smooth operations
Build scalable CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation using tools such as Terraform
Improve the reliability, performance, scalability and cost efficiency of production systems
Develop platforms and tooling so that Product and Engineering teams can develop and deploy services more efficiently
Work closely with Backend Engineers, ML Engineers, Researchers and the Product team to understand system requirements and build appropriate platform solutions
Lead technical problems where no clear answer or ownership has been defined, and take responsibility from investigation through implementation to production rollout
Experience building and operating production systems in cloud environments such as AWS, GCP or Azure
A high level of experience with Linux, Networking, Containers and Kubernetes
Experience using Terraform, Ansible or similar Infrastructure as Code tools
Experience designing and operating CI/CD and deployment systems
Experience with Observability, Monitoring, Logging, Alerting and Production Incident Response
Programming or scripting experience with Python, Go, TypeScript or other backend-oriented languages
Experience debugging complex problems across multiple layers of a production system
A solid understanding of Distributed Systems and Cloud Architecture
A problem-solving approach that does not stop at temporarily relieving symptoms but digs all the way down to the Root Cause
The ability to solve problems effectively even where ownership boundaries are unclear
7 or more years of experience in Infrastructure, Platform Engineering, SRE, DevOps or similar engineering roles
Experience building a Developer Platform or Infrastructure Platform used by several engineering teams
Experience operating B2B SaaS products requiring High Availability at scale
Experience designing systems that take high levels of Security and Compliance requirements into account
Experience in Backend Service Development and Distributed Systems
Experience making decisions that weigh trade-offs between System Performance, Reliability and Infrastructure Cost
Experience working at a fast-growing Startup or in an environment that demands a high level of ownership
Ability to communicate in English
We are not looking for someone who fits exactly one role or category. The strongest candidates have a solid infrastructure foundation, yet can also write software themselves, debug backend systems, respond to production incidents, and continuously improve the reliability of the systems they run.
You may call yourself an Infrastructure Engineer, Platform Engineer, SRE or DevOps Engineer. However, what we value most is not the title you hold but how you approach and solve problems. When a problem occurs in production, the person we are looking for is someone who wants to understand why it happened. You dig into systems, question existing assumptions, follow the evidence across multiple layers and find the root cause. And you do not stop at fixing the problem; you improve the system itself so that the same problem is less likely to occur again. If you enjoy solving problems this way, you are the kind of person we are looking for at TwelveLabs.
