About the role

Translated into English from Korean by Korum. The employer's original wording is on their site.

Who we are

Video accounts for 90% of the world's data, yet most of it remains in a realm that machines cannot yet understand.

TwelveLabs builds AI infrastructure that enables machines to understand video, in order to solve this problem. Through AI models that understand video more precisely and in greater depth than people do, we comprehensively analyse the visual and audio information within video and apply it to workflows across media and entertainment, sports, security and the public sector.

We have raised over KRW 300 billion in cumulative investment from global investors including NEA, Radical Ventures, Amazon, NVIDIA, Snowflake, Databricks, Index Ventures, Naver Ventures, Korea Investment Partners, Quadrille Capital and Red Bull Ventures. In addition, world-renowned AI leaders such as Fei-Fei Li, Silvio Savarese and Alexandr Wang serve on our advisory board.

TwelveLabs is a global company operating from four offices in San Francisco, Seoul, New York and London. Our core research and development takes place in Seoul, and members across our offices are applying video understanding technology across a range of industries and markets. Because we build technology that understands the complexity of the world, we believe better products are created when people with different backgrounds and perspectives come together.

We are looking for people who want to define answers that do not yet exist, and who want to create change with their own hands. Build technology that understands the world with us at TwelveLabs.

About the Team

The Forge team builds the B2B SaaS platform that connects the AI models developed in-house by TwelveLabs to the customers who use them. Currently, we deliver TwelveLabs technology through our API, SDK and Playground, a web application, to customers of many tiers, from individual developers to large enterprise customers. Going forward, we will build a shared foundation that provides authentication, billing, organisation management and a consistent data layer across all products, and develop it into a platform on which all TwelveLabs products can run. Centred on our offices in San Francisco, USA and Seoul, Korea, team members with diverse backgrounds work together as one team to build our products.

Our team's core values are autonomy and an open mind. Every team member sets goals and executes them on their own initiative, and we aim for a culture in which people freely propose ideas and discuss them to build a better product. The engineering team designs systems in close discussion with PMs from the product design stage onward, and implemented code is refined through peer review.

About the Role

The Forge team at TwelveLabs builds platforms and user experiences so that customers can easily explore TwelveLabs' video AI technology and use it in real products and work. As Senior Frontend Engineer, you will be responsible for Playground and Jockey App, delivering an intuitive and polished experience suited to the purpose of each product and its user flows.

You will take part from the product design stage, shaping customer requirements and complex AI capabilities into interfaces that are easy to use. You will design the frontend structure of your products and develop reusable components and common patterns, improving usability, performance and maintainability.

You will work closely with product managers, designers, and backend and AI engineers, leading the design and implementation of your features, through to post-launch improvements that reflect user feedback.

In this role, you will
  • Design and develop the model exploration and usage experience in Playground and the AI agent usage experience in Jockey App, so that customers can use complex functions intuitively.

  • Implement the conversational interface, real-time responses, and the display of task progress and results in Jockey App, and provide a clear user experience in waiting, error and retry situations.

  • Design and improve a frontend structure that reliably manages common platform functions such as authentication, organisation management, billing and usage, as well as the complex data and state of each product.

  • Work with PMs and designers from the product design stage to refine user flows and interactions, and take the lead in proposing alternatives that account for usability and technical constraints.

  • Collaborate with backend and AI engineers from the API and event interface design stage, integrating new models and agent capabilities into Playground and Jockey App.

  • Develop reusable components and common UI patterns while respecting the characteristics of each product, and improve product quality through testing, performance optimisation and accessibility improvements.

You may be a good fit if you have
  • Over five years of frontend development experience, with a track record of leading production web applications from design through launch and operation.

  • Strong skills in React and TypeScript, and experience designing the structure and data flow of web applications using tools such as Next.js and React Query.

  • Experience handling asynchronous data flows and complex UI states, and the ability to deliver a reliable user experience while accounting for loading, errors, retries and other situations.

  • Experience improving frontend quality and maintainability through an understanding of component design, state management, testing and performance optimisation.

  • The ability to judge priorities and technical trade-offs amid changing requirements, and to work with PMs, designers and backend engineers to refine solutions.

  • Business-level English for technical discussions and documentation, and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across different functions and regions.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing responsive websites using a CSS framework such as Tailwind, or a proprietary design system.

  • Experience using major design tools such as Figma, and experience collaborating with in-house design teams.

  • Testing experience using open-source unit testing tools such as Jest and React Testing Library.

  • Understanding of REST APIs and API design, and experience building a Mock API server using Mock Service Worker.

  • Experience developing enterprise-level products.

  • Understanding and experience of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and frontend infrastructure (CI/CD, build tools, caching, optimisation and so on).

  • Experience developing video-related services (such as video streaming and video search).

  • From the outside it looks like a gentle voyage, but inside it is a storm.

  • Tokens Never Sleep: three months of lessons from TwelveLabs working with AI agents

  • A rate limiter that only counts requests was not enough.

  • Spec-Driven Test Automation: why does AI always write test code only half-heartedly?
