Job description

As Head of Graphic and Digital Design, you will play a key role in the transformation, creative elevation and structuring of our team. Combining human mentoring, a sharp aesthetic judgement and operational rigour, you will guide the development of a passionate team towards greater autonomy and a smooth alignment with all of our creative disciplines.

Reporting directly to the studio director, you will be the driving force behind the continuous improvement of our 2D expertise towards digital, interactive and media, while ensuring the aesthetic excellence and reputation of GSM Studios.

Your responsibilities (What you will do day to day)

  • Ensure the art direction, quality control and aesthetic coherence of all 2D deliverables across all studio projects.

  • Establish the overall art direction of projects, while translating concepts into impactful visual creations.

  • Lead creation end to end and ensure supervision and graphic realisation, from initial ideation through to the final production files.

  • Lead the strategic project to modernise 2D expertise by steering interdisciplinary collaborations with digital, interactive design, motion design and the media integrations of tomorrow.

  • Streamline work processes with the 3D design, content, scenography, media and user experience teams.

  • Manage, coach and mentor the 2D design team to foster their autonomy, skills development and the accountability of each person.

  • Assess the team, map skills and structure training paths adapted to new digital and interactive trends.

  • Structure workload management and develop the department's capacity for self-management and productivity.

  • Put in place a rigorous approach to effort estimation, planning and tracking of creative schedules.

  • Prepare and support the team in direct client relationships and in the impactful presentation of visual concepts.

Your assets (What you bring)

  • Bachelor's degree (BAC) in an appropriate artistic discipline (graphic design, multimedia, fine arts or a related field) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Solid experience in art direction, graphic design and leading multidisciplinary creative teams.

  • Recognised expertise and forward-looking vision in the digital shift of 2D design (interactive interfaces, motion design, media integration applied to space or museography).

  • Proven ability to smooth collaboration, break down silos and harmonise workflows between creative and technical disciplines.

  • Advanced mastery of the Adobe Creative suite and modern tools for interactive prototyping, dynamic content and project management.

  • Concrete experience in pitching concepts and in creative communication for non-specialists.

  • Sector expertise: knowledge or concrete experience in exhibition design, environmental design or scenography (a strong asset).

  • A striking portfolio that shows great strength in design, brand identity and overall visual conception.

Your skills (The GSM spirit)

  • Collaborative and cross-functional spirit: You excel at interdisciplinary teamwork and know how to build natural bridges between the different creative specialisms.

  • Future vision and curiosity: You are passionate about digital and interactive innovations and know how to instil this culture of renewal in your team.

  • Solutions orientation and rigour: You know how to combine creative boldness with logical thinking to deliver large-scale projects within constraints and schedules.

  • Impactful communication: You express yourself with clarity, diplomacy and conviction, both to your team and to partners and clients.

What GSM offers you (Our benefits)

At GSM, we invest in your well-being and development:

  • Hybrid working: We favour working in the office and maximum flexibility for work-life balance.

  • Generous time off: Three weeks of annual holidays plus closure of the agency over the festive period.

  • Human days: 4 public holidays doubled + 3 human days to take care of yourself.

  • Comprehensive health: Group insurance plan (life, medication, dental, paramedical care, travel...) with 3 coverage options.

  • Active well-being: $250 per year for your physical activities or the purchase of sports equipment for the home.

  • Green transport: Discounts on Bixi and Opus subscriptions to make your travel easier.

  • Culture: $200 CAD per year for expenses related to exhibition admissions.

Strong human values lie at the heart of the stories we stage, and we believe we can benefit from a more diverse and equitable world. As an employer, GSM Studios actively commits to recruiting a diversity of voices within its teams.
