About the role
Translated into English from Norwegian by Korum. The employer's original wording is on their site.
Would you like to help shape the future of underwater technology, from the drawing board to operational use?
Argus is seeking an experienced technology leader who will bring the technical teams together, set the direction for product development and ensure that good ideas become robust products in operational use.
As Head of Technology you will be responsible for engineering and technology development, report to the CEO and be a member of the management team. You will play a central role in decisions about which solutions we should develop, how we use our expertise, and how technology should strengthen the company's competitiveness.
Norwegian technology for an international market
Argus Remote Systems has developed and manufactured electric, remotely operated underwater vehicles since 1991. From Laksevåg in Bergen we supply ROV systems to customers in oil and gas, aquaculture, research and defence.
At Argus, mechanics, electrical engineering, electronics and software come together in products that we develop and build ourselves. The proximity between development and production gives short routes from technical discussions to practical testing.
We now want to strengthen the collaboration between the technical teams and further develop the way we prioritise and carry out development work. You will have a key role in preserving our innovative strength while also ensuring quality, progress and sound product choices.
Your responsibilities
You will lead engineering and development and be responsible for a joint technology and product plan within the company's strategy. Together with the management team you will prioritise between customer needs, technical possibilities, capacity and profitability.
Your main responsibilities will be to:
Lead and develop the technical teams with clear expectations, people follow-up, competence development and cooperation across disciplines.
Prioritise development work and ensure good use of capacity and budget, with clear decisions on what should be carried out, postponed or stopped.
Make technology choices within system architecture, platforms and design, including standardisation, reuse and assessment of in-house development against purchased solutions.
Ensure technical quality through requirements management, design reviews, testing, verification, documentation and control of technical changes.
Ensure that technical solutions are ready for production, with well-developed design, necessary documentation and good dialogue with the production teams.
Contribute to customer dialogue and tender work with assessments of solution choices, feasibility and technical risk.
Further develop the products with attention to operational reliability, maintenance and cyber security throughout the product lifecycle.
Who are you?
You have led technical employees and got several engineering disciplines to deliver together. You can point to complex products or systems that you have followed from development and testing through to production and use at the customer.
Qualifications:
Relevant higher technical education, preferably at master's level. Documented equivalent practical competence may compensate for formal education.
Solid leadership experience from engineering or product development, with people responsibility and documented results.
Broad system understanding across mechanics, electrical engineering, electronics and software, with professional depth in at least one relevant area.
Experience of prioritising development resources and technical decisions that affect costs, quality and delivery time.
Experience of structured development processes, testing, documentation and change control.
Commercial understanding and the ability to link technology choices to customer value and profitability.
Good communication skills in Norwegian and English, both spoken and written.
You must be able to obtain security clearance.
Background in ROV, subsea, maritime technology or offshore is an advantage. Experience from robotics, mechatronics, automation and other industrial technology environments is also relevant.
Clear direction and trust in the technical teams
You have the confidence to challenge technical assessments and the curiosity to listen to experienced specialists. You handle professional disagreement, make decisions and unite employees around shared priorities.
You thrive close to both people and products. When a customer wants a new solution, you consider the consequences for the whole system and what is required to deliver. You create ways of working that leave room for innovation while making development work more predictable.
The opportunity at Argus
At Argus you will have the chance to influence both the products, the technical teams and the company's further development. You work closely with the CEO and the rest of the management team, and can follow the results of technical choices from design and testing through to use at the customer.
This is an opportunity for someone who wants broad technology leadership responsibility, closeness to their own products and an experienced technical team to develop further.
