At Valtech, you will find an environment conducive to continuous learning, tangible impact and professional growth. Whether you are developing new digital solutions, challenging preconceived ideas or building the next generation of customer experiences, your work will help transform industries.

We are proud of:

  • Our work and the innovation that we encourage
  • Our values : "share, dare, care"
  • A corporate culture that fosters creativity, diversity and autonomy
  • Our global structure without borders, which enables smooth collaboration

Fluency in English is required, as the role involves regular communication with clients and colleagues located outside Quebec.

About the role
We are looking for an experienced Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Expert to lead observability, reliability and operational excellence initiatives within complex cloud-native environments. This role goes well beyond administering an observability platform and requires deep expertise in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), combined with extensive experience of production operations, automation and reliability practices at scale.
The ideal candidate has recognised technical expertise, is able to define observability standards, support product teams and continuously improve the reliability and performance of platforms.
Main responsibilities
  • Define and implement the observability strategy and the associated standards and governance models.
  • Design, deploy and maintain monitoring, alerting and visualisation solutions using Dynatrace or equivalent tools.
  • Establish and promote SRE best practices, including SLIs, SLOs, Error Budgets and symptom-based alerting mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with development and product teams to improve the reliability, performance and resilience of systems.
  • Define standards relating to tagging, governance, ownership assignment, dashboards and alert management.
  • Support and train teams without specific observability expertise.
  • Lead technical projects, manage priorities and ensure delivery of work within the defined timelines and budgets.
  • Analyse and resolve complex incidents in distributed microservices-based architectures.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, documentation and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate effectively with distributed teams in an international context.
Required qualifications

  • Significant experience of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) in complex production environments.
  • Strong command of the following concepts:
    • Service Level Indicators (SLI)
    • Service Level Objectives (SLO)
    • Error Budgets
    • Symptom-based alerting
  • Proven expertise with an observability platform such as:
    • Dynatrace
    • Datadog
    • New Relic

  • Practical experience with:
    • Application Performance Monitoring (APM)
    • Real User Monitoring (RUM)
    • Instrumentation and monitoring agents
    • Alert management
    • Role-based access control (RBAC)
    • SLO management
    • Governance and tagging standards

Cloud and distributed systems

  • Good knowledge of OpenTelemetry (OTEL) and distributed tracing.
  • Experience in composable architectures based on microservices.
  • Practical experience in production environments with:
    • AWS
    • Kubernetes

Automation and DevOps

  • Experience in infrastructure and operations automation.
  • Proficiency in:
    • Terraform
    • Bash
    • Python
  • Experience with GitLab CI or any other CI/CD pipeline and workflow management tool.

Leadership and collaboration

  • Proven ability to lead a technical project from end to end.
  • Experience in complex operational and Agile environments.
  • Excellent communication skills in French and English, both spoken and written.
  • Strong ability to share knowledge and coach teams.
  • Rigour, autonomy and a strong sense of documentation.
  • Excellent organisational skills, collaboration and priority management.
Additional assets
  • Experience monitoring and operating Java Spring Boot applications.
  • Experience within an e-commerce platform or environment.
  • Experience defining and deploying observability standards across the enterprise.
  • Experience consulting for or coaching multiple development teams.
Candidate profile
You see observability as a strategic lever for reliability, not simply as a monitoring tool. You combine in-depth expertise of platforms such as Dynatrace with solid SRE experience, cloud-native environments, automation and production operations. You enjoy coaching teams, influencing best practices and contributing directly to improving the reliability of systems at scale.

If you do not meet all the listed qualifications or have gaps in your experience, we encourage you to apply. At Valtech, we recognise the value of diverse talent and value a plurality of perspectives as well as a thirst for learning.
