About the role

Translated into English from Dutch by Korum. The employer's original wording is on their site.

Working at a startup with the benefits of a scaleup.

TL;DR: Have you always wanted to work at an innovative tech startup? But do you also value a stable foundation, job security and good employment conditions? As a DevOps Engineer at Cyberfusion you experience ‘the best of both worlds’.

Are you also deeply rooted in the camp ‘Linux and open-source’ and are you:

  • a Linux Engineer or System Administrator who is ready for more freedom, responsibility and/or wants to develop more broadly, or;
  • a DevOps Engineer who would rather really dive into the depths. Instead of only using existing solutions or ready-made services from cloud providers, or;
  • a Software Developer who wants to learn much more about infrastructure and architecture?

Then read on. It really is worth it.

Meet Cyberfusion

Cyberfusion came about by responding to the needs of web agencies and SaaS companies. In 7 years we have built a solid and enthusiastic customer base. Now it is time for the next step. Our ambition: to grow into the largest WebOps platform for web professionals in Europe. Realistic? Certainly. Because…

What makes Cyberfusion unique?

Cyberfusion is becoming a WebOps platform specially built to host, monitor, secure and optimise many websites and applications in one place. Until now this was only possible with overly complicated solutions from American cloud providers. With, among other things, unique cluster technology we offer the perfect solution for our target group: web professionals who manage many websites and applications for end customers. Cyberfusion is therefore the first all-in-one platform for this target group.

How will you contribute to our ambition? In other words: what will you be doing?

Cool things. At least, if you love challenges and can handle a great deal of responsibility. You will be co-managing and expanding Cyberfusion's fully automated platform. And this platform is complex in its construction. It has to be, when you intertwine hosting, monitoring, security and optimisation at a deep level.

Your work is therefore very varied:

  • We estimate that you will focus 70% of your time on automation and new features. Think of building a Python API that reads statistics from systemd cgroups (which other developers can continue working with) or writing Ansible playbooks for setting up and managing internal applications (such as NextCloud and GitLab).
  • About 20% of your time you will be busy with manual maintenance, such as upgrading hundreds of nodes in our self-built cluster platform or debugging an unexpected VRRP failover. Not always the most enjoyable work, but necessary to deliver the quality and reliability that is expected of us.
  • The remaining 10% of your time you handle support questions from technical customers. Over time this will become less.

Your future prospects

As Cyberfusion grows, you may develop towards Team Lead. You would then also be occupied with onboarding and coaching colleagues, for example. If you would rather keep focusing on the technology and be the go-to person for colleagues, that is also possible. Whatever your future role becomes: from day 1 your contribution is crucial to achieving our ambition.

We value your mentality more than your experience. With this mindset, working at Cyberfusion feels like coming home:
  • If you are into the camp ‘Linux and open-source’, you immediately understand what we mean. We also consider this a form of mentality. You do not need to be an expert yet in the software our platform is built on (including Ansible, Python, HAProxy and RabbitMQ), as long as you have the fundamental knowledge and the will to master these technologies.

  • You find quality super important. You get the time and space to make things you are proud of; in the long term that is better. At the same time you understand that things sometimes have to be finished at the agreed moment. If you then continue a bit longer, you compensate for that time again at another (suitable) moment.
  • You have a ‘getting things done’ spirit. If something does not work immediately, you are creative enough to think of other possible solutions. And you get the space for that. You really enjoy sinking your teeth into something. ‘I don’t understand it’, we can do nothing with that. Answering each other's concrete questions, however, we are happy to do.
  • You understand the importance of (proactive) communication. If, for example, you are unable to keep an appointment, you indicate that in good time.
  • You enjoy discussing the approach together on the broad outline. Like your colleagues, you find it important to keep each other sharp with critical questions. That is how you arrive together at the best ideas. Then you gladly get started independently on the implementation, although there is always room to consult further.

You recognise yourself in the following as well:

  • Ideally you already have several years of work experience in this or a related role. If you are still (late) junior but have the right mentality, we are happy to be surprised.
  • You have the analytical ability to hold your own within a complex landscape of many integrated systems. We build everything ourselves, after all. And you find that cool.
  • You find it fantastic to continually acquire new knowledge to keep feeding your need for challenge.
  • You write and speak Dutch and English with proficiency.
  • You prefer to work 40 hours (but from 32+ is open for discussion). In addition, you have no problem with - once you are ready for it - doing at least 1, but preferably 2 or 3 days per week of standby duty outside office hours. Of course against an additional allowance, even if there are no incidents. The days are determined in consultation. This can be arranged flexibly.

Your impact is great, which we reward with:

  • A salary suited to your knowledge and experience. Broadly this means between € 3.500 (early medior) - € 6.000 (fully qualified senior). Because we are open to different backgrounds, we can make this more concrete in consultation.
  • A standby allowance of € 25 gross per shift on working days and € 50 on days off, even without incidents. This can therefore rise to well over € 400 extra per month for 3 days per week.
  • An office directly next to Eindhoven Centraal. But hybrid working is the new normal: as long as you communicate when you work where, it is up to you. Although you do understand that it is sometimes simply handier to be able to switch live. And we simply find that pleasant too. An added benefit: both lunch at the office and sometimes also in the city are included.
  • Flexible working hours. But really flexible. Whether you start at 07:00 or 14:00, everything is open for discussion. As long as there is sufficient overlap in working hours.
  • A one-year contract with prospects of a permanent contract.
  • Full travel expense reimbursement for public transport or a per-km allowance of 23 cents for the car and the bicycle alike.
  • A home working allowance of € 2,35 per day.
  • Pension scheme (and employer contribution) in consultation.
  • At least 25 holiday days based on a full-time employment.
  • A minimum training budget of € 1.500 per year to spend freely.
  • A discretionary budget of € 1.500 extra per year to add to your training budget or to buy extra holiday days with.
  • A vitality budget of up to € 50 per month. For example for boxing lessons or a swimming subscription. Or for buying sportswear. This is entirely up to you.
  • The resources you need to do your work well, both in the office and at home (such as a MacBook, an iPhone and a good workspace).
  • The chance to be at the foundation of, and grow along with, an already proven startup.

Important note:

Our website is a reflection of the current form of Cyberfusion. So there are discrepancies between what you read here and what is on the website (such as DirectAdmin; we will no longer use that soon).
