About the role
Translated into English from German by Korum. The employer's original wording is on their site.
Description
As Director of Engineering you will steer, together with your fellow Director, our engineering team of around 240 people and actively shape the technological future of Appsfactory. We are looking for a person with genuine leadership mentality who empowers teams to take responsibility independently. At the same time, you will advise our clients confidently and as equals, represent us in pitches and translate complex business requirements into scalable, first-class IT architectures.
Your tasks:
Technical consulting: You advise clients as equals - in particular when introducing our methodical AIDLC approach (AI-Driven Development Lifecycle) - and represent our approaches convincingly in pitches and workshops, winning people over to innovative technological solutions.
Project success & excellence: You support demanding large-scale projects from a technical perspective, ensure high quality and architecture standards and create the conditions in which your team can do its best work.
Leadership: You lead and develop your Tech Leads and engineering teams with empathy and a clear stance. You motivate them to take responsibility themselves and to keep developing continuously.
Innovation: You develop future-proof technology strategies, evaluate new trends (e.g. Agentic AI) and bring them profitably into real client solutions.
Business drive: You keep the overall goal in view - from forward-looking resource and capacity planning to aligning the engineering roadmap with the goals of our clients and Appsfactory.
Your profile:
Education: Completed degree (Bachelor or Master) in computer science, software engineering or a comparable field. Alternative qualifications with a relevant IT background are equally welcome.
Professional experience: Several years of well-founded experience in the tech and engineering environment. Ideally, you have previously worked yourself as a software developer and know the practice from your own experience.
Agency & service provider DNA: You know the environment of a digital agency or IT service provider and bring experience in advising clients.
Leadership experience: You have already successfully led larger engineering teams (>50 developers / Tech Leads / broadly skilled IT engineers) and know how to support them sustainably.
Technical depth: You move confidently in modern software architectures with clear focus on full-stack (in particular backend) as well as platform engineering. Basic mobile understanding and a good sense for successful UX round off your profile.
Future-oriented: Topics such as Agentic AI and AI-supported development methods are not buzzwords for you, but tools you can evaluate and use profitably.
Personality: You act extremely proactively, reliably and dependably. You have strong self-management, communication and presentation skills.
Language skills: German at native level (Native / C2) and very good English (at least B2 level).
