Head of Legal (Inheritance/Succession) | DeathTech

At GCO Ventures, the Corporate Venturing entity of GCO (Grupo Catalana Occidente), we are building a new startup to solve a problem that hundreds of thousands of families face every year in Spain: managing an inheritance.

It will be a digital solution that supports the process from start to finish and without friction, combining technology, legal and tax specialists, and human support.

We are looking for the person who will be our legal reference in the operation of the service and the product.

You will have real autonomy and responsibility: supervising the first cases and defining, together with the CEO and Technology, the model for our operation, and then scaling it with a team of specialists. This is the opportunity to create the succession service that combines the rigour of a law firm with the scale of a digital platform.

Responsibilities

• Be the responsible legal reference for the advisory service and ensure the legal and tax rigour of every case.

• Define the operating model: processes, legal criteria, templates and tools supported by AI.

• Lead the process from start to finish and the associated legal and tax decisions, supervising specialists and collaborators.

• Build and lead the legal team as the volume of cases grows.

• Identify and manage the legal, regulatory and professional liability risks of the service.

• Provide legal support for the relationship with funeral and insurance partners: agreements, referral protocols and data protection.

• Define and monitor quality indicators for case files and user experience.

• Gather the learnings from each case to build and keep the service protocols up to date.

Requirements

• Degree in Law and Master's in Access to the Legal Profession. Training in business, administration or economics is also valued.

• Broad legal background (civil, family, property and commercial law) and demonstrable experience in succession law and estate management. Ideally, with a track record at leading law firms or in the legal departments of the Big Four.

• Knowledge of inheritance taxation to support cases in Catalonia and the rest of Spain.

• Experience defining and scaling operations within the legal and tax area: defining processes, protocols, measuring quality and rigour, automating steps.

• Experience managing legal teams and/or law firms.

• Willingness to work very closely with the product and technology teams, and genuine openness to AI applied to legal services.

• Excellent oral and written communication in Spanish. Catalan and other languages are highly valued.

Especially valued:

• Current registration as a practising lawyer in Spain.

• Knowledge of the insurance or funeral sector.

• Prior exposure to digital products, legaltech or digitalised legal services.
