Requirements
You will help make a real-time, always-on, high-traffic service outage monitoring platform reliable and scalable. The platform combines user reports and other signals to show when apps, services and networks fail, and it receives sudden and extreme traffic spikes during major outages. You will work on cloud infrastructure, automation and operations, and you will gradually modernise and simplify what already exists. The product belongs to an international technology company specialised in network measurement and analysis.
Stack: AWS (IAM/SSO, VPC, RDS/Aurora, S3, Lambda, CloudWatch), Terraform, CloudFormation/CDK, Cloudflare, MySQL/PostgreSQL, GitHub Actions/CodeBuild, Python/Bash, Linux, Grafana (Prometheus/Loki) and Sentry.
Essential
Terraform (AWS and Cloudflare providers): remote state, plan/apply in CI, imports and drift correction. Also maintenance of CloudFormation and zero-downtime migration of stacks to CDK or Terraform (planned work for the role).
Cloudflare managed with Terraform: DNS, WAF and custom rules, rate limiting, bot management and caching rules.
MySQL/PostgreSQL: query optimisation, indexes, replication and failover, backup and restore, and safe migrations.
CI/CD with GitHub Actions (OIDC with AWS, reusable workflows) and CodeBuild, with safe deployments and rollbacks.
Automation with Python and Bash (boto3, API integrations) and practical problem-solving on Linux.
SSO and SAML 2.0 with an identity provider such as Okta or Auth0.
We also expect
Observability: dashboards, low-noise alerts and SLOs.
Incident response and on-call duties, with triage and postmortems.
Turning bot and scanner traffic into WAF or rate limiting rules.
Security hygiene: secrets, IAM reviews and triage of CVEs and Dependabot alerts.
Cost optimisation.
Familiarity with data platforms: Athena, S3 and Glue.
What else we are looking for
Ability to work autonomously across time zones, and to write clear tickets and runbooks.
Proficiency with Jira and agile methodologies.
Fluent English, spoken and written.
Daily use of AI agents for programming: specifications, review, tests and quality gates.
A drive to take ownership of your work from start to finish.
An interest in networking: motivation to learn wired and wireless protocols and apply them to solve customers' network problems.
A plus
Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, Serverless Framework, Docker with ECS and experience with high-traffic consumer websites.
